While studying theater at N.Y.U.’s Tisch School of the Arts, Lisa began her professional acting career. She authored and performed the AIDS related musical “Positive Me” which was one of the earliest AIDS related theater productions. She first appeared as a host of the cable series “Awake on the Wild Side”. Lisa Edelstein appeared as a call girl friend on “The West Wing”, a season long role as David Conrad’s sister ‘Rhonda Roth’ on Relativity, the transsexual boyfriend of James LeGros on “Ally McBeal” and an Orthodox Jewish woman losing custody of her on “Family Law.” She also appeared on several TV shows as a guest star including Seinfeld, ER, Frasier, Family Law, Sports Night, and Just Shoot Me . On Superman, an animated series, she gave her voice for the character of “Mercy Graves” .Lisa also had a recurring role in the first season of NBC’s highly-acclaimed drama series, ‘The West Wing’.
Lisa has also appeared in several feature films including the Academy Award-winning feature film ‘As Good As It Gets’, as well as ‘The Doors’, ‘Love Affair’, ‘Susan’s Plan’, ‘Indiscreet’, ‘What Women Want’. Her latest and current role is that of hospital administrator Dr. Lisa Cuddy, who often opposes House’s improper methods, must admits that he is the best doctor in her staff, in the hit medical drama “House” on the FOX network. She gives a lot of her time to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary and their efforts to find new homes for rescued animals and pets.
